British Military Fitness has been working in conjunction with Westminster City Council and Hungerford Turning Point drugs service to give rehabilitation to drug users.
Conducted in London's Hyde Park, BMF provide one-hour supervised exercise sessions to hostel residents. Activities range from individual and group exercises and circuit training, supplemented with running and gym sessions (how often/what gym), as well as advice about nutrition and relaxation organised by Hungerford Drug Project.
Classes range from a core group of six to 12 participants, and there are always two BMF fitness instructors on site.
Apart from the physical benefits, the programme has provided participants with a new focus and structure to their day, helping them to reduce anti-social behaviour and to make lifestyle changes.
Two participants have recently completed their first 10km race, while others have started college courses or been re-settled in their own accommodation. BMF are currently in talks with council-operated leisure centres to offer outdoor training
